The development bears the name of the late Amir Shaikh Isa Bin Salman Al Khalifa and has become another landmark in Bahrain. Situated adjacent to the Al Fateh Grand Mosque the library compliments the existing structure with quintessential Arabic architecture.
The project is complex having to allow for future developments in information technology and conferencing systems. The project incorporates not only a library, but also international standard conference facilities, multipurpose theatre/lecture hall, museum space, gallery and show arenas, cafeterias, book and document retention areas.
The finishes are to the highest standards with extensive use of high quality stone finishes, decorative wall and ceilings claddings, ornate woodwork, and ornamental screens. Of particular interest is the “clam shell’ vaulted roof which rises to over 10m in height and is supported on complex steel trusses spanning for over 50m.
The construction is massive and will remain for many years one of Bahrain’s most prestigious public buildings.
